Hi! I’m Julia and I’m a Clinical Psychologist.

Hi, I'm Julia. I am first and foremost a human being, interested in our common humanity with a belief that we are all doing the best we can. (No one gave us a manual!)

I have a BA in Psychology from the University of Cambridge, and a Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of East London. I am registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health & Care Professions Council and am registered with Disclosure Scotland's Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme (equivalent of the DBS check in England).

My work is underpinned by two principles that I believe are key to almost all psychological therapies:
- creating space/distance from which to observe thoughts and feelings
- creating space around emotions in order to let them pass with more ease

I draw on psychodynamic, systemic, narrative, solution-focused, cognitive-behavioural, mindfulness and self-compassion approaches. I tailor my approach to the individual and occasionally follow my intuition to do something different if that feels right to all involved.

I have 10 years' experience of working as a therapist in mental health services of various kinds in the NHS in London, 5 of those years as a Clinical Psychologist.  My most recent post was working with adults in Moray with common mental health challenges.

Outside of the therapy room, I have interests in feminine power, embodiment/sensuality and spiritual awakening.  And in my spare time I love making people laugh and hanging out with trees.

I work approximately three weeks out of four, with longer breaks every few months.  This is discussed in the initial consultation to check if this is likely to work for you.

Feel free to get in touch to get a sense of whether I might be the right therapist for you at this time. I look forward to hearing from you and supporting you to find ways to live with more freedom.
