Background information:
I’m a HCPC registered clinical psychologist based in West Yorkshire. I began my studies at Durham University where I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology.
Early on, I became interested in how individual, social, and environmental factors shape our mental health. This interest led me to work across a variety of NHS mental health services where I gained invaluable experience and developed a real passion for supporting others.
These early experiences motivated me to pursue further training in psychology and I went on to complete my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Newcastle University. Throughout my career, I’ve continued to build on these foundations, aiming to support people in a compassionate and collaborative way.
My experiences in the NHS have given me the opportunity to work in a wide range of settings, supporting people of all ages from young people to older adults. I’ve also worked in specialist services, such as neurorehabilitation and early intervention in psychosis. These roles have helped me develop a flexible approach and a strong values base.
At the heart of my work are the principles of trauma-informed practice and a focus on interpersonal connection.
Meeting Charlotte:
Beginning therapy can often feel daunting, and I recognise the courage it takes to reach out and attend your first session. I appreciate the trust you place in the process of seeking psychological therapy and this is something I am always mindful of as we work together.
My priority is to offer a safe, welcoming space where you feel respected and understood. I see coming to therapy as the start of a journey, with each person bringing their own unique experiences and story. I am always interested in learning more about what has brought you here and I approach our work with compassion and genuine curiosity.
During our first session, I will share information about what you can expect from therapy and answer any questions you may have. My aim is to be open and transparent as this initial meeting is an opportunity for you to see if therapy feels right for you at this time. Most importantly, I want you to feel empowered and in control throughout the process.
Difficulties Charlotte helps with:
My training enables me to take an integrative approach to therapy by drawing on aspects of different models. This is informed by developing an understanding of the difficulties you’re facing and guided by your preferences. My hope is that we can work together to create a therapy that reflects your individual needs and goals.
The models can be used to help with a variety of difficulties, such as anxiety, low mood, self-esteem and interpersonal problems. It may be that you wish to reduce how much impact a particular difficulty has on your life. It may be that you are looking at how you can build up more positive aspects of yourself, such as feeling more confident or developing skills to deal with life’s challenges.
Many people may not have a specific name or label for what they are experiencing. This is completely understandable and part of therapy may be about exploring your unique story and recognising the complexity and nuance of what you’re going through. We’ll work together to understand how your current difficulties affect your life and what they mean for you personally.
Interests outside of psychology:
Outside of my professional work, I enjoy spending time outdoors by going for hikes in the countryside and exploring green spaces. The Yorkshire Dales are a firm favourite of mine.
I also love trying different foods and am gradually working my way through the many wonderful cuisines that Leeds has to offer. I am a keen crocheter and often recharge by working on various projects at home. Spending quality time with friends and family is also very important to me.
