Learn More About Emily
Background information:
I have always been interested in people’s stories and the way they have navigated different parts of their lives. I think it is a huge privilege to be able to have conversations with people about the important parts of who they are, different aspects of their identity, and important experiences, values and relationships.
I completed my doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of East London and have since worked in a range of physical and mental health settings. I currently work in a child and adolescent service within the NHS.
Meeting Emily:
I hope to bring compassion, warmth, creativity and meaning to our conversations and to get to know you at a pace which feels comfortable to you. Initially, we might spend some time getting to know each other, thinking about how our conversations can be helpful to you and what you might like to explore together over the sessions.
I think it is important to understand you as a person, including your interests, values, background and important relationships, in addition to the different reasons people choose to come to therapy.
I think that therapy is a place you can choose to bring, or not to bring, whichever aspects of yourself, your experiences and your relationships you would like, to experiment with different ideas and ways of being, and to invite vulnerabilities which might not have a place in other areas of our lives. Essentially, I hope that it can be a flexible and supportive place to work alongside you as you navigate different aspects of your life.
Difficulties Emily helps with:
I understand that everyone has a different reason or hope for seeking support and would hope to spend some time exploring the approach which would fit for you. I have worked in a range of mental health and physical settings in the NHS, including with adults, children, families and couples.
I draw on different approaches to suit individual needs and preferred ways of working together. This includes using narrative, systemic and cognitive approaches. In addition, I think it is important to understand the impact social, political and historical contexts can, understandably, have on people’s experiences and would like to support conversations in which this can be explored if you would like.
Interests outside of psychology:
The very basics are my favourite – spending time with my friends and family and being able outdoors.
