Hi! I’m Hatice and I’m a Clinical Psychologist.

Can you tell me a little bit about your background?

I have over ten years of experience working in the NHS having started as an assistant psychologist followed by completing my three-year doctoral training at Kings College London. I continue to work in the NHS and private practice. I have been fortunate to work and train in nationally acclaimed institutions including Maudsley and Bethlem Royal Hospitals, National Autism Unit and Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability. I have a special interest in working with adults with learning disabilities and autism; I believe that the adaptation of communication and interventions to suit individual’s needs is transferable to most client populations.
What will it be like when I meet you?
I like to take the gentle approach guided by the pace the client is ready to work with. In relation to children and young people I’m happy for an adult to be in the room for some part or all of the session(s) depending on what the client would find most helpful.
In the first session, I would like to find out about what you would like to work on in therapy, what your current difficulties are as well as finding out about the times when the difficulties were not around and your strengths. I often have sheets of paper to write/draw on if the client finds this helpful.
What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?
I offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for anxiety and low mood/depression. I also have a special interest in narrative therapy, the telling and re-telling of a story from a problem saturated version to one that acknowledges the difficulties whilst building hope and resilience. I have a wealth of experience in behavioural interventions following Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) principles, this is mainly offered through consultations to parents, carers and systems. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is an evidence based approach for trauma memory re-processing. I also offer further therapeutic interventions informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
What do you enjoy doing outside of psychology?
In my spare time, I enjoy attending evening sewing classes to meet new people, learn new skills and make things for myself such as cushion covers and clothing items. My aim is to move onto making rag dolls as gifts ☺ I also enjoy my weekly aqua zumba and spinning classes and spending time with my family and friends.
