Where are you based?We offer online as well as face to face appointments from three locations in East Finchley, Hackney and Brixton. We also offer home visits on request.

What happens the first time I meet you?The first time we meet is an opportunity for us to learn more about you and the difficulties you are facing. At the end of the session we will discuss a plan going forward and you will be given an opportunity to decide whether this fits well for you.

Are you accredited by any professional body?All our therapists are accredited and regulated by a professional body including the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and British Psychological Society (BPS).

What are NICE Guidelines and do you work by these?National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) provide guidance for therapists in terms of which types of therapy they should use for the different difficulties individuals/couples/families experience. We follow the guidelines provided but appreciate that people do not fit into boxes, so are flexible in terms of the therapies we offer, to ensure they fit best for you.

How quickly can you see me?We aim to offer an initial consultation within 7 days.

Have you seen anyone with my/our difficulties before?We have experience working with a wide variety of clients including: -Children -Young people -Adults -Older adults -Families -Military personnel -Individuals with Learning Disabilities -Individuals with Neurodevelopmental disorders (eg. Autism Spectrum Disorders) -Individuals with Neurological Conditions.

What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?We have training and expertise in a variety of different therapies, such as: -Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy -Acceptance and Commitment Therapy -Narrative Therapy -Psychodynamic Psychotherapy -Compassion Focused Therapy -Family Therapy -Person-centred Therapy These are effective in helping people overcome difficulties such as low mood, anxiety, anger, stress, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem/confidence, coping with the loss a loved one, the impact of trauma or adjusting to new life circumstances. We appreciate that many rely on their psychologist to provide a therapy that suits them best. Therefore, our experience enables us to provide tailor made therapy using the most effective methods at supporting individuals to overcome their difficulties.

What will it be like when I meet you?One of the most important parts of our work is building relationships with those sitting opposite us. You can have all the training and knowledge in the world, but if the client doesn’t return, none of this can be put into action. Therefore, our first aim is always to provide a warm, compassionate and non-judgmental space where we can work on your difficulties together.

How many sessions will I need?At The Oak Tree Practice, we do things a little differently. Our aim is to help you get to where you want to be, in the shortest amount of time possible. We don't offer a minimum amount of sessions, as if you feel like you're where you want to be after one or two, we'd be delighted! Of course, if you would like longer term therapy, we are more than happy to discuss that too.

There is a particular type of therapy I want. Do you offer it?We offer a full range of therapies some of which include: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Family Therapy, Eye-movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy and Integrative Therapy. The only type of therapy we do not offer is Hypnosis, as this is not recommended in National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines.

Can I talk to my therapist before we meet?Of course, we always think its best for us to have a chat before meeting. Give us a call or send us a message and we’ll ring you back.

Can we have sessions over skype, telephone or chat?"Yes! We can discuss the best method for you during our initial chat.

How often will I see you?We believe in a flexible approach and one that suits you. Depending on the person or people we’re seeing, we are able to offer sessions weekly, twice weekly, fornightly, monthly or something completely different if it works for you.

Are you accredited with my health insurance?We are accredited with all major private health insurance companies. Get in touch if you are unsure and we can confirm it for you.

Is everything I say confidential?Everything we discuss in our sessions is confidential between us. We do not send any reports to your GP unless you consent to this. The only event that we may break confidentiality is where we are concerned that you are at risk to yourself or to others. In this case, We will speak to you before we take any further action.

How do I know what type of therapy/therapist I need?This is an important question, as there are many different types of therapists providing a huge variety of therapies. When we initially speak to you, we can discuss the different possibilities available and what might be best suited to you. All our therapists are trained in at least two different types of therapy (eg. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), so we can be flexible to your needs and provide care tailored to your needs.

Who should I speak to in the event of an emergency?In the event of an emergency where you are at risk to yourself or others, call 999 or go to your local Accident and Emergency Department. If it is not an emergency, you are welcome to give us a call or send us a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Why should I choose the Oak Tree Practice?At The Oak Tree Practice we’re a bit different. We’re not just psychologists, but friends and have known each other for a number of years. We consider ourselves to be an ethical practice and are keen to work together to help you get to where you want to be in a time frame which suits you. We try to be as accessible and flexible as possible and try to be available if you need a quick call to discuss something, and can change sessions if the same time doesn’t work for you every week.
